Sprites initially appear as a ball of colored light about the size of a tennis ball, but they can take the form of any animal that could comfortably stand on the palm of a human hand. Aside from delivering the Chroma Knights their powers and informing them of their mission, the sprites keep watch for suspicious activity and report it back. They can also join the Knights on missions, scouting ahead to provide intel. They were created to be helpful, but they may have individual and unique personality quirks.

Examples of creatures small enough includes songbirds, elf owls, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, mice, gerbils, hamsters, jerboas, sugar gliders, bats, turtles, frogs, and lizards.

While it is technically possible for a sprite to take the form of a fantastic creature, such as a small fairy or a miniature dragon, the idea is to blend in. Therefore, it should choose a form that can pass off as a pet or as local wildlife.

Tyreesha Smith was abruptly awakened by a brilliant yellow light hovering above her face. Her first thought was that her younger brother had decided to rummage around her room with a flashlight. "Hey, you!" she grunted as she leap up and reached for the interloper. She grasped nothing but air.

"It's all right; I'm not going to hurt you," a tiny, calm voice said. "I'm here to bring you your destiny."

"My... destiny... what?"

"Tyreesha, you've been chosen to become a Chroma Knight." Suddenly, a flood of knowledge entered her mind, and she knew what the light meant by "destiny." It meant protecting the world against a threat impossible for any force on Earth to face. It also meant great personal risk. She shivered.

"You don't have to decide right away," the light (which she now understood was a 'sprite') said quickly. "But soon would be good, because someone is in danger right now!"

She couldn't let an innocent person get hurt, but accepting the sprite's offer would be no small commitment! "If... if I accept, can I quit later?" she asked.

"Yes, you may."

"All - all right then, I'll try it."

"O-okay then, I'll try it," she said, jumping out of bed.

The sprite lit up even brighter, and a burst of light shot out from it and went into Tyreesha's chest. It felt warm and pleasant.
